Saudi Arabia Lifts Danger Alert in Najran Amid Missile Threats
The agency said the warning was intended to notify residents of a potential danger but did not disclose further information about the nature of the threat.
Earlier, Saudi air defense systems intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi group toward the kingdom’s Eastern Province, according to the Saudi-led coalition.
On Wednesday, the coalition reported intercepting and destroying another Houthi ballistic missile aimed at the western Saudi city of Taif.
Late Tuesday, fragments from two intercepted Houthi missiles damaged a building, a construction site and a vehicle in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, according to Civil Defense. No casualties were reported in the statement.
The incidents come amid mounting tensions between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
Saudi Arabia has headed a military coalition fighting the Houthis since March 2015, following the group’s seizure of Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, and other parts of the country in 2014.
